King Kong 360 3-D: The World’s Largest 3D Experience

As a pioneering achievement in immersive media, King Kong 360 3-D required the seamless integration of massive-scale projection and synchronized show control systems to envelop the Studio Tour tram. The attraction utilizes two custom-curved, 180-foot-long by 40-foot-high screens that surround the vehicle, illuminated by an array of 16 high-lumen digital projectors delivering uncompressed 3D media at 60 frames per second. The immersive illusion is sealed by a complex theatrical lighting package and a multi-channel surround audio system that localizes sound effects to specific screen coordinates, ensuring auditory cues track perfectly with the visual action. This precise synchronization extends to the “tram-mover” motion base, where the media server timecode drives the pneumatic motion profiles, blurring the line between physical movement and digital simulation.

how qco entertainment helped

QCO Entertainment Consulting founder Paul Cuoco, working as an employee of Universal Creative, spent 2 years developing, tweaking, and perfecting the immersive 3-D projection system for the attraction, which includes 16 projectors, unique lensing, and 2 custom compound curve screens that stand 40′ tall and 187′ long.
